Where Champions Get Their Gear

You may know Ivy “The King” Calvin from A&E’s Storage Wars, but long before television, Ivy built a reputation as a fierce competitor, leader, and mentor. Born and raised in Southern California, Ivy grew up loving sports — and excelling at them. At Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, CA, he dominated wrestling, football, and track & field. His athletic journey continued at Bakersfield College, where he played football and competed as a decathlete, before transferring to California State University, Northridge, becoming both a discus thrower and a standout football player.

After college, Ivy pushed his limits even further, playing in the Arena Football League for the San Jose Sabercats and Anaheim Piranhas. A freak hand injury ended his football career, but not his competitive drive. Ivy went on to fight professionally as a heavyweight boxer and MMA athlete, proving again that resilience is his signature.

As life evolved, so did Ivy’s calling. He poured his passion into coaching — from youth soccer, baseball, and football, to serving as the head football coach and track & field coach at Vasquez High School. His leadership also extended into a surprising arena: pigeon racing. For the past 13 years, Ivy and his son Ivy II have built Big Game Loft, one of the most successful racing lofts in the country, producing more than 30 race champions.

Ivy’s newest athletic obsession is darts, where he competes locally and online. What started as designing his own dart jerseys turned into something bigger — a brand dedicated to athletes, competitors, and everyday warriors. And that’s how Big Game Apparel was born.
